Fala is an AI tutor for European Portuguese, built by Yasya Bernies in San Francisco. This page explains, in plain language, what information Fala collects, why, who helps us process it, and what you can ask us to do with it.

What we collect

• Your account. Your email address and, if you sign in with Google, the name and profile picture Google shares with us. We never see your Google password.
• Your lessons. What you say and write to Tiago, his replies, your level, the words and grammar you have practised, and the notes Tiago keeps about you (for example, that you are moving to Porto in the spring). You can see and edit these notes in the app.
• Your voice. When you speak, the recording is sent to our speech provider to turn it into text. Fala keeps the text, not the recording.
• The waitlist. If you request access on falaapp.com, we keep your first name, email, phone number and the reason you chose, so we can invite you personally.

How we use it

Only to run Fala for you: to sign you in, to teach you, to remember what you have learned between lessons, to fix problems, and to contact you about your access. We do not show ads, we do not sell your information, and we do not share it with anyone for their own marketing.

Who helps us run Fala

These companies process your information on our behalf, only to provide their part of the service:

• Supabase: our database and sign-in.
• Vercel: hosts the app. Netlify: hosts this website.
• Anthropic: the AI model that writes Tiago's replies.
• ElevenLabs: turns your speech into text and gives Tiago his voice.
• Google: sign-in, if you choose "Continue with Google".
• Formspree: receives waitlist requests.

These providers may process information in the United States and other countries.

Cookies

Fala uses only the cookies needed to keep you signed in. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

How long we keep it

We keep your account and lesson history while your account exists, so Tiago can remember your progress. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete it and your lesson history within 30 days.

Your choices

You can ask us at any time to see the information we hold about you, to correct it, to send you a copy, or to delete it. Email yasya@falaapp.com and we will reply within 30 days.

Children

Fala is not meant for anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. If a change matters for how your information is used, we will tell you by email first.
